A new weapons trailer has revealed seven items for the upcoming Painkiller reboot, set for launch on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S in fall 2025.
A new trailer was revealed during Galaxies Showcase, featuring:
- Electrodriver unleashes a flurry of electrified shurikens that ricochet off walls and other hard surfaces,
- Stakegun launches powerful, high-velocity stakes that pin enemies to walls with great efficiency from a distance,
- SMG sprays short, rapid bursts of bullets to shred enemies in close quarters,
- Handcannon delivers shots with explosive power, perfect for long-range takedowns,
- Shotgun blasts foes at close range with a wide spread of pellets that can stagger and tear through the crowd,
- Rocket Launcher fires a heavy-duty rocket that detonates on impact, creating a massive explosion,
- Painkiller comes as a savage multi-tool for melee attacks that can hook and tear enemies while restoring ammo with every kill.
A new Painkiller title was revealed during Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2025. Developed by Anshar Studios and with 3D Realms and Saber Interactive as publishers, this reboot is marketed to reimagine the classic franchise.
In this game, players will be able to choose from four characters: Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch, each offering their own set of perks and enhancements to energy, health, power, or damage. Tarot will be one of the key features, allowing players to boost abilities and even sync effects with teammates. The upcoming title also will offer cross-play cooperative multiplayer.
The original game was developed by the Polish game studio People Can Fly and published by DreamCatcher Interactive in April 2004. The title later got five expansions from different developers: Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell (2004), Painkiller: Overdose (2007), Painkiller: Resurrection (2009), Painkiller: Redemption (2011), Painkiller: Recurring Evil (2012).
It is worth noting that the upcoming Painkiller 2025 is not the first try to relaunch the franchise as Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, both a remake of the original game and a sequel to it, developed by The Farm 51 and published by Nordic Games, was released in 2012.
